Wanted to share a quick lesson with you, which is the importance of bases. A base is anything you put UNDER makeup - so this could be an eye primer, lip primer, and so on. I want to show you guys how different bases can completely change the look of a product.
I'm going to be demonstrating this using Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow in Punch Fuchsia (from the new Artist Palette). The bases I am using are NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk and Black Bean.
DIFFERENT BASES AND WHAT THEY DO
NO BASE: The product will look much softer, muted and light.
WHITE BASE: The product will look much brighter, more intense, and sometimes pastel-y.
BLACK BASE: The product will look much deeper, more intense, and will bring out reflects (such as the blue reflects in the photo below).
WHY THIS IS AWESOME
This is an awesome way to get a lot of use out of one product. You can completely change the effect/appearance of ONE eyeshadow instead of buying a bunch of different products (let's be real, we are all still going to buy a bunch of different products). This is also a really fun way to get yourself out of your comfort zone and try something new with your makeup. Play with more bases than just white and black and see how it changes your products!
HOW DO I APPLY THEM
When using a base, you want to apply it over the area you will be placing the product ONLY. So if you want the shade on the lid, apply it only to the lid in a generous amount, and blend the edges using a fluffy brush. Then apply the shade over top by patting it on, not sweeping, with a flat brush or finger.
